Many people are sometimes confused when we say that we create jewelry with antique buttons. “But they don’t look like buttons!” many say. Our buttons are very different from the four-holed buttons of today. Dating as far back as 1880, many were crafted from metal, and adorned the length of gowns of Victorian women. Rather than using four holes to attach the buttons to garments, they employed what is called a shank (a loop on the back of the button) to sew them on. Our antique buttons come in many styles, materials, and designs making each piece of Grandmother’s Buttons jewelry a one-of-a-kind treasure. The button that you see in our photos will not be the exact same one that you receive because of the antique nature of the buttons. We rarely find pairs of matching buttons, much less entire sets!
