Two Victorian buttons dating from 1880-1900: a small bright-cut pewter button with a crescent moon, and a stunning medium brass button set with a large cut steel star. Cut steel refers to small bits of faceted steel that were hand-riveted into a brass button base, a process that was used in button and jewelry making from the late 18th to the late 19th centuries.
