Lovely, small cut steel button with crescent moon, with a medium brass and cut steel button with six-pointed star in center. Both buttons are circa 1880-90. The bottom button is also set upon a vintage dyed pearl button from the mid-20th century. Cut steel refers to small bits of faceted steel that were hand-riveted into a brass button base, a process that was used in button and jewelry making from the late 18th to the late 19th centuries.
