Two ornate Victorian buttons with images of a crescent moon and stars, the larger made of cut steel with brass, the smaller with hand-pressed jet glass highlighted with silver luster. Both buttons are from the period 1880-90. Cut steel refers to small bits of faceted steel that were hand-riveted into a brass button base, a process that was used in button and jewelry making from the late 18th to the late 19th centuries.
