Porcelain Roses
Product #: 01-09vault15
Collection: Vault Necklace
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, young ladies made a hobby of hand-painting china. Porcelain button blanks made by European manufacturers were purchased, the painting done at home, and the buttons sent off to a factory to by fired in a kiln. Popular floral motifs were forget-me-nots, roses, violets and pansies. Many of the buttons we find still have the makers' initials painted on the back.
