In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, young ladies made a hobby of hand-painting china. Porcelain button blanks made by European manufacturers were purchased, the painting done at home, and the buttons sent off to a factory to by fired in a kiln. Popular floral motifs were forget-me-nots, roses, violets and pansies. Many of the buttons we find still have the makers' initials painted on the back. This lovely piece will be hung from the watch chain necklace pictured above. Necklace measures 16-20 inches in length. A vault card will be enclosed containing your button description and authenticity.
